The short version
I do not want your data. I would not know how to sell it if I tried, and I have no interest in learning. I treat personal data like toxic waste: the less I touch, the better.
This site exists to publish a book and articles. That is it.
1. Who operates this site
This website is operated by David A. Burkett. It is built on Ghost, an open-source publishing platform, and hosted on Ghost(Pro), Ghost’s managed hosting service.
2. What data is collected
Because this site runs on Ghost(Pro)’s infrastructure, Ghost Foundation handles the technical operation of the site, including server logs and request processing. I do not run separate analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising scripts.
If you just read the site: Ghost’s servers process your request, which means standard web server information (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) is logged by Ghost’s infrastructure as part of normal operation. I do not independently collect, access, or analyze this data.
If you subscribe: Ghost’s membership system stores the email address you provide. If you create a paid subscription, payment processing is handled by Stripe. Your payment details (card number, billing address) go directly to Stripe. I never see or store your payment information.
3. Cookies
Ghost sets a session cookie if you sign in as a member. This cookie is functional (it keeps you logged in) and is not used for tracking or advertising. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are set by this site.
4. Third-party services
The following third-party services are involved in operating this site:
- Ghost Foundation (privacy policy) provides hosting, content delivery, and the membership/newsletter system
- Stripe (privacy policy) processes payments if you choose a paid subscription
- YouTube (privacy policy) embeds appear on the trailer and book pages. YouTube may set cookies when the embed loads. This is governed by Google’s privacy policy
I do not use Google Analytics, Facebook pixels, retargeting scripts, or any other third-party tracking services.
5. How your data is used
Your email address, if you provide one, is used to send you the content you signed up for. That is its only purpose. I will not sell, rent, share, or otherwise distribute your email address to anyone.
6. Data storage and retention
Subscriber data is stored on Ghost(Pro)’s infrastructure. Ghost Foundation is a non-profit organization incorporated in Singapore, with servers operated through their hosting partners. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policy.
I do not maintain a separate database of user information. If Ghost(Pro) stores it, that is where it lives. I do not export, copy, or back up subscriber data to other systems.
7. Your rights
You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. If you want your data deleted entirely, contact me and I will remove your record from Ghost’s system.
If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Contact me to exercise any of these rights.
8. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, contact me and I will delete it.
9. Changes
This policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be noted with an updated effective date at the top of this page.
